Play's Conclusion

Post a quote in the comments section that represents Arthur Birling's and the Inspector's views of responsibility.

How do they differ from each other?

The Inspector -"Public men, Mr.Birling, have responsibilities as well as privileges." (page 41)

Inspector Goole thinks that powerfull men have responsibilities towards his workers, family etc. Plus, he claims that Mr.Birling can't be a public man coz he doesn't feel responsible towards nothing.

But Mr.Birling only cares about the privileges part. Responsibility means nothing to him. He is just a rich, selfish man with no liability.

Arthur Birling is a personality whose first priority is to make money and get power. His benefits are more important then his family members and workers. According to him, "a man has to make his own way." That's why he refuses to accept any responsibility for Eva Smith's death.

On the other hand, Inspector Goole is a personality whose main target is to make the Birling family realise that their tude behaviours had a great influence on Eva's death.

I just really liked about responsibility the part of Inspector when he said "there are still lots of Eva Smith in the outside"
