What's Up Wednesday

Who is the most responsible character? If we believe that each character has a partial responsibility to "Eva Smith," who did the most damage to cause her downfall? Explain your response and argue against other students who comment.

I think Mrs.Birling is the most responsible character, because she was knowing Eva Smith was pregnant but she didn't help her. she just said find baby's father.

Işıl you are right. Mrs. Birling is the one who is the most responsible for Eva Smith's death. She must have helped a young lady who is pregnant and needs help.

I don't think that we can decide who did the most damage to cause her downfall since they were all a part of her death. Sheila caused her to be fired only because of her spoilt attitude. Mr. Birling refused to increase the salary for a few pense, her earnings. Mrs. Birling denied her where as her job was to help. Eric and Gerald acted the way rest of their family acted and prooved how ignorent and thick-headed they are. So it's quite hard to choose. But I think the heading responsible person for her death is Mr. Birling, by discharging her.

I agree to what Serra said everyone in the family has some responsibilities towards Eva Smith but Mr.Birling and Mrs.Birling has the most responsibility....

i agree with Serra. Each of the character has affected Eva Smith's life negatively. I think that it's hard to choose the one who is more responsible. However, we can identify the one who "acts" more responsible, Sheila.

I think they all equally damaged her but none of them are exactly responsible of her death because she didn't HAVE to kill herself it is her personal choice to do so.

i think none of them is " most responsible". they all did something which made her life upside down. Not only all the family is responsible, but also Eva Smith, herself, is responsible for confusion of her life.

I think that Selen is wrong because right now we are living a life that rare people can. And because of that we don't know about other people's lives. I think that both Eric and Gerard were the most responsible people because they knew that it wouldn't go any more than Eva being their mistress. They played with her without thinking about her feelings. Yes Mr. Birling and Sheila had a fault but they didn't know about her circumstances. Mrs. Birling is as responsible as Gerard and Eric but she wasn't as close to her as they were so she wasn't as responsible as they were.

I think like Serra too. Because of all the characters' self-interest, Eva Smith was hurt. They all made her suicide.

me too i agree with serra every member is guilty and all of them have to be shmed of their selves...in addition to that i think selen is totally wrong, maybe it's her choise but she tried a lot to survive but birling family and gerald didin't let her suceed.

idont think that they are responsible about eva smith's death. it's her own responsibility to earn money, everyone has diffuculties in their lifes. think about everyone killing themselves. that just wouldn't work.i dont say that they have the perfect personality by saying that they aren't responsible about eva's death.

I think each of them are responsible about Eva's death but I can't identfy one of them is the most. Like Lara said it's Eva's choice to choose death and Birlings and Gerald just help it to happen so all of them are responsible.
